Welcome to our store's blog!

This page is dedicated to articles about Mustangs.  I have owned several Mustang Fastbacks in my time, and have a fascination with Mustang history.  Many articles will be about past Mustang cars and unique thoughts about them.  Other articles will be about Mustangs today.  From time to time, I may include an article on a non-Mustang related item if I find it interesting to me and my audience.  I hope you enjoy my insights, ramblings, and areas of interest, and look forward to reading your replies as well.

Look out Indiana ! You’ve got black Mustang Police Cars prowling around the state in 2008.  And you probably won’t know it until the blue and red lights come on!

I’ve never really liked the idea of Mustangs as police cars. That’s sort of like letting the fox in the Mustang clubs hen house. I’m all for law and order, and being safe on the road. But, I’ve never liked a government agency using a popular car like the Mustang for pursuit cars. I’ve always wanted the Mustang to be for just the enthusiasts, or for those who appreciate them.  Not as patrol cars.

In the Wheels section of the May 17th 2008 Indianapolis Star, there was an article about the Indiana State Police purchasing 18 of these 2008 Mustang GT Fastbacks.  There’s a front end picture of one in the article on the first page.  The Mustang GT Fastbacks were being tested by several troopers at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont, Indiana , home of one of the largest drag racing track in the nation.  The Mustang GT Fastbacks are driven on a road course that can simulate the road conditions the troopers will be facing on a regular basis. The Mustang GT’s would replace Crown Victoria ’s use for similar purposes.

In the 1980’s, Indiana used Mustang cars as traffic patrol cars. I seem to remember seeing them around interstate 465 in Indianapolis from time to time.  They then switched to Chevrolet Camaro’s for a period of time and then went to the Crown Victoria’s in more recent times. Even when the Camaro’s were active I did not like the thought of them rolling around watching the public either.

The black Mustang GT Fastbacks are to be posted in each of the Indiana State Police districts. The article goes on to say that the Mustangs would be rarely used on interstates, but will be used to focus on two-lane highways and other roads where fatalities seem more common.  The officer being interviewed said that “motorists will likely not notice the troopers since Mustangs are a popular car and these models are not marked”. “They don’t even have the antennas”.

Anyway, I wanted to let you know that our beloved Mustang cars are once again on the streets of Indiana as State Trooper cars, and that if you are ever tempted to want to see what one will do….I’d decline from such activity.  The cost for the show would be really expensive.

What do you think about the use of Mustang GT’s as State Police Pursuit Cars?  Do you know of any other states that have such cars today?  If you do, let our readers know.  And let us know your thought’s about our beloved Mustang’s used in this way.  Look forward to your replies….
